A1 northbound near Peterborough closed for accident investigation

THe A1 northbound near Peterborough is likely to remain closed until this afternoon (March 14) as investigation work takes place following a serious collision.

Emergency services have now left the scene but accident investigation work is underway and the carriageway is being cleared of debris.

The accident involves at least one vehicle which has collided with trees.

A diversion is in place.

Highways England said this morning (Sunday, March 14) the road is likely to be closed until this afternoon and added: “The A1 is closed northbound between the A47 and the A43 near Stamford due to a road traffic collision.

“Road users are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for their journeys.”

Peterborough police said on social media: “Please be advised the A1 Wothorpe is currently closed due to an ongoing police incident.”

A diversion is in place and Highways England said drivers should follow the following route.

“Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbols.

“Exit the A1 at the A47

“Continue along the A47 until the A47/A6003 roundabout, turn right onto the A6003

“Continue along the A6003 until the A6003/A606 roundabout, turn right onto the A606

“Continue along the A606 and re-join the A1

“For northbound traffic accessing the A1 at Wothorpe, continue on the A43 through the villages of Easton on the Hill and Collyweston to the A43/A47 roundabout. “From this point, use the route above.”
