Letters: Peterborough’s transport needs debated

The cost and reliability of bus services - and the need for sustainable transport - have been questioned by readers

It’s ridiculous how stagecoach does not offer a students’ bus fare.

It is cheaper for me to drive my kids to school than let them take the bus.

To take the bus they each have to pay full adult fare!

A simple solution to the terribly unreliable bus services, using the number 1 service as an example:

Instead of having the number 1 service covering Orton to Werrington, why not have a service from Orton to town only, then a different service for town to Werrington?

This way if there was an accident in Orton for example causing delays, then only the Orton buses to town would be affected, not all services from Orton to Werrington, its common sense really.

So change all of the major routes to go from town to their destination only. It would result in a more reliable service and I’m sure if the buses were consistent, any complaints about the changing buses on all services at the station would go away in time.

Transport is such an important area in transforming cities and in particular the new road linking Peterborough and Cambridge is almost a joy to drive now apart from a few cones here and there and the new road not popping up on my sat nav.

Sustainable transport in Peterborough and electric buses, with areas to charge up electric cars in particular would be of great advantage.

More bike lanes so those within the city can be encouraged to cycle especially as there may be more students in the future and cycling by the river is such an enjoyable thing to do. There are some beautiful areas and villages and it would be lovely to link them with some sustainable transport and green corridors and enhance routes that are no so beautiful. It would improve air quality and create a more sustainable future.
