The wanderings of a land artist

Renowned worldwide for his site specific, natural world sculptures - including patterns cut into fields, giant whirlpools made of slate, marking time and place with large hand-made stone cairns and woven shelter structures, Chris will look back over a long and successful career spent creating work about simply place, culture and connections.

His work has taken him to seven continents allowing him a unique insight into how people from different cultures and landscapes, both urban and rural, see the world from different viewpoints and giving him the opportunity to explore a connection to nature. 

Shortly after coming to Peterborough he will be leaving for Australia to make a large piece in Perth called ‘The Wandering’

Recent projects include a residency at The Nirox Foundation in The Cradle of Humankind, South Africa, working with Paleontologists, Geologists and anthropologists, a British Antarctic Survey residency in Antarctica, a work for the Australian National University in Canberra and an exhibition about place, ecology and politics at The Nevada Museum of Art called Mushrooms/Clouds.

Over the last decade or more, he has been working with clinicians to make links between systems in the body and systems on the planet and continues to travel and respond to diverse requests for exhibitions, collaborations, installations and site specific works outside.
