Since the beginning of the pandemic, so many have relied on the unconditional love that comes from owning a pet, with March 2020 seeing a surge in dog ownership.
One charity that has been able to stay open and be there for pets and their owners in Wood Green, The Animals Charity based on Kings Bush Farm, Godmanchester.
The centre remains open to the public by appointment only and specialises in treating and rehabilitating neglected or injured pets alongside matching up prospective dog owners with the perfect companions.
They have also been supporting pet owners with online classes and workshops and returned to TV screens on Thursday (March 11) with the latest series of The Dog House on Channel 4.
The pandemic has hit every charity hard though and Wood Green is no different, they have been running an urgent appeal to raise funds to be able to continue their vital work.
Another way to support the charity is by adopting a pet, due to the pandemic, they are only able to offer adoptions within a one hour radius of their Godmanchester base but that is good news for Peterborough residents. Here is a selection of the adorable dogs currently looking for new homes.
1. Dexter (4 years 10 months)
Meet Dexter, he is a gorgeous American Bulldog that is very typical of his breed. He is looking for a training minded, adult only home with no visiting children. Dexter can take time to make friends so it is important to have multiple visits to us to build a relationship with him, but once he knows you he is a really affectionate and friendly chap. Dexter would love to live in a rural area away from too many people and other dogs. Photo: Midlands

4. Pancake (2 years 4 months)
This little treat is Pancake our pocket Greyhound. She has been looking for a new home since March 2020 and deserves a cosy bed and loving family. She can be a little nervous and sensitive to loud noises and can only be rehomed to children over 13 years. Pancake cannot live with any other animals and must live in a low dog populated area due to ongoing training when on her walks, though if you have a large secure 6ft fenced garden for her to charge around in, walks are not essential.
