Most footpaths now accessible at Ferry Meadows as flooding eases but visitors urged to take care

On Sunday (December 27) visitors were advised against travelling to the park for the next 24-36 hours due to high water levels making large areas unsafe.

Flooding has eased since then and a statement from Nene ParK Trust said today (December 30: “Most footpaths around Ferry Meadows are now accessible, but access is still limited in certain areas - keep an eye out for the signs!

“The accessible paths remain very wet and due to the frosty start are also very icy so please do take care and wear appropriate footwear.

“️Lakeside car park is still closed, limiting the parking onsite to the main Ferry Meadows car park only.

“Please be aware that the children’s play areas are still very wet and best avoided.

“The main toilet block is open as usual, but the toilet block at Lakeside is still inaccessible.

“Ferry Meadows Café is open for takeaway service, however Lakeside Kitchen & Bar remains closed.

“An update on the flooding situation in the wider Park will be shared when we have it.”  
The Trust which runs several parks and trails in the city also confirmed that Ferry Walk between Bluebell Bridge and Milton Ferry Bridge is still impassable and that the access road to Orton Mere will remain shut until further notice. All paths except Horse Path are still flooded at Thorpe Meadows.
