MOBO award winner YolanDa Brown heads new season at the Key

It's Spring time in Peterborough as the Key Theatre opens its doors to a brand new season.

Hot on the heels of another successful panto, the Key Theatre welcomes back some old favourites as well as some brand new shows from renowned touring companies.

Families will have plenty to look forward to this season as well with original shows and some excellent page to stage adaptations. Join Phileas Fogg on his journey Around the World in 80 Days (February 18 to 20), introduce tiny ones to ballet with Tortoise and the Hare (April 2) or indulge yourself in the story of a preposterous proboscis with The Nose That Nobody Picked (March 24).

Music is always a big part of the Key’s programme and has featured artists of both national and international renown. Showcasing their own new and original music are double MOBO award winning saxophonist YolanDa Brown (February 27), English folk stalwarts Martin Carthy & John Kirkpatrick (February 28) Grammy-nominated American Jazz singer Stacey Kent (April 5) and soul sensation Ruby Turner (April 17) to name but a few.

The Key Comedy Festival returns for its fourth year, taking place between March 9 and 13 in the Main House and Studio Theatre.

With names such as Mark Thomas (March 9), Fascinating Aida’s Dillie Keane (March 10), Rob Delaney (March 11), Mark Steel (March 12) and James Acaster (March 13), all headlining in the Main House plus a host of comedians in the studio including Peterborough’s own Edinburgh Fringe Best Joke winner Darren Walsh (March 11).

Some great tribute shows also let you enjoy the live experience of artists who now rarely or no longer perform. Come, see and hear the magic and the music of Supreme Queen (February 12), The Simon and Garfunkel Story and Letz Zep (March 30). There are even some nostalgic star-turns from the chart toppers of yesteryear including Gerry Marsden in Gerry Across the Mersey (February 13) and The Three Degrees (March 31).

Traditional Drama is never forgotten however; this season you can catch John Godber starring in his brand new comedy Shafted! (February 22 to 24), or Harold Pinter’s dark absurdest classic The Birthday Party (March 1 and 2) amongst a veritable platter of Shakespeare, Opera and Ballet screened live in-house from the Royal Opera House and Royal Shakespeare Company.
