If I needed the help of the police I wouldn’t be best pleased if officers arrived with a camera crew and a ‘celebrity’ in tow.
Bosses at Cambridge Constabulary, who you might think would have their hands full balancing budgets and, er, fighting crime, thought it was a good idea to let Channel 4 make a reality show based around the work of special constables.
The show called Famous and Fighting Crime – involves TV presenter Katie Piper, Loose Women panellist and former underwear model Penny Lancaster, Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing, Gogglebox star Sandi Bogle and comedian Marcus Brigstocke – and the crimes they fought included ones in Peterborough.
Channel 4 said: “We’re not confirming which incidents they were involved in yet - we don’t want to spoil the show for viewers.”
They don’t need to worry about that - it won’t!
Assistant chief constable Dan Vajzovic reckons it will showcase the great work done by volunteers and hopefully encourage others to sign up.
But what’s next a superintendent doing a salsa on Strictly or the chief constable going into the jungle (and I don’t mean Millfield!)?
Perhaps Peterborough City Council will follow suit.
We could have Celebrity Homelessness with stars housed in St Michael’s Gate.
The winner could get a two-weeks all expenses paid stay at a Travelodge in Doncaster.
The losers would be thrown out of their ‘homes’ and forced to listen to city council cabinet members explain why evicting families to provide homes for the homeless was a really good idea.
