Half-term: Big fish hunt with Dr Jeff
Peterborough Museum is throwing open its doors (February 15-19, 10am-5pm) to The Big Jurassic Fish Hunt, a fun filled family event themed around new and internationally important research that is currently taking place there.
In 2002, in a quarry in Whittlesey, Dr Jeff Liston uncovered remains of the world’s largest ever species of fish, ‘Leedsichthys Problematicus’ which dates back to the Jurassic era and has been largely unresearched.
Children and families will be able to work with Dr ‘Jurassic’ Jeff to learn as much as they can about the fish in fun, educational activities, some of which will be hands- on. Children will get to use microscopes, follow a trail around the Museum and get up close to see bones of the fish. They will also have the opportunity to engage their creative brains by making ‘Palaeo-art’ – crafty artistic creations inspired by the fossils they’ve seen and learnt about during the day.
