The Wetherspoon pub on Broadway didn’t reopen on July 4, instead it stayed closed after lockdown for the completion of a delayed £800,000 refurbishment.

The work was originally to have been carried out during March and April, but was put on hold after pubs and restaurants were closed on March 20 as part of the Government’s measures again the spread of coronavirus.

The work is now going ahead, and College Arms will reopen on August 14 with a new customer garden at the rear, converting the delivery yard, as well as major internal works, including upgrades to the kitchen and toilets.

The layout at the bar will be changed to speed up the serving of drinks and safety measures will be in place.

The project will take Wetherspoon’s spending in the city centre to more than £2million this year, with The Draper’s Arms in Cowgate benefitting from a £1.4million extension and refurbishment before reopening- albeit briefly - on March 17. It opened again on July 4.
