Peterborough restaurant owner's fundraising tops £19,000

He might have raised more than £19,000 in less than a year for the hospital which saved his life but there is no stopping the Peterborough restaurateur known to all as Krishna Kris.

Kris, who opened the Gurkha Lounge in Hampton Vale in 2017, saw his life thrown into turmoil in 2023 when he became seriously ill and ultimately needed a double lung transplant at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.

But rather than let his misfortune stop him in his tracks, Kris set about buying a second restaurant from his hospital bed - converting a former bank in Peterborough city centre into the Kathmandu Lounge restaurant which opened in March last year.

Within weeks his fundraising there had raised an incredible £10,355 for the Royal Papworth Hospital Charity.

And in November, a charity dinner at the Church Street restaurant, featuring local entertainers Nicole Lawrence and Malcolm Fovargue, took his fundraising total to £19,298.

Kris and his family handed over the latest donation (£8,943) to the charity at a celebration last week.

But he is far from done, and already has the date for his next big fundraising dinner on the calendar - November 25, although, as he points out, people can donate all year round via his JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/page/kathmandulounge
