With Prime Minister Boris Johnson expected to formally announce a further relaxation of lockdown measures allowing pubs and restaurants - shut since March - to reopen, The Crab and Winkle at Werrington has a new, more familiar appearance.

A spokesperson for Greene King, which runs the pub at the Loxley Centre, said the boards were coming down as part of the process of reopening the pub.

“We took the decision to board up the Crab & Winkle for the duration of its closure as a safety precaution, but are now in a position to take this down as we are well underway with our plans to reopen the pub in line with current Government guidance, said the spokesperson.

“We look forward to welcoming our customers back to the pub when it is safe to do so.”
