The unmistakable signs from the Albert Place pub, off Bourges Boulevard, have come down and the building remains locked.

A new sign - The Genie - can be seen on the wall now, though there are no clues as to what is coming next.

The premises licence for the venue was surrendered to the city council last week by owners PF and C Ltd.

It is a far cry from a decade ago when well known restaurateur Jim Trevor and wife Sharon breathed new life into the building which had stood idle for more than a year.

It soon earned a reputation as the city centre’s go-to gatropub, with its “more than a pub, not just a restaurant” slogan.

It became a fish and chip themed pub-restaurant in 2017, with takeaway attached, before the Trevors moved on to concentrate on their other businesses - the Six Bells at Witham on the Hill and the Queen’s Head at Bulwick last year.
