Peterborough pub raises almost £10k in honour of much-loved musician and local legend Chris Allen

A pub in Peterborough has raised almost £10k over the last three years in the name of the much-loved local hero Chris Allen.

There was an outpouring of love at the news of Chris’s sad passing last Saturday (March 14) following his three-year battle with cancer.

Chris was a well-known figure on the city music scene and played in many local bands such as Salmon Dave, Brotherhoods Roundabout, The Motivators and Gobblinz and more.

Many also shared fond memories of Chris’s time working at The Lido as well as as a teacher at Orton Longueville School.

Following Chris’s diagnosis, the Lime Tree, on Paston Lane, has held a number of events in his name, including its ‘PE4 Fest’ last August as well as the Lime Green Fest in May.

Both events will be returning this year with the PE4 Fest on August 30 and Lime Green Fest on May 24. Tickets will be priced at £5 this money going to charities nominated by Chris, Macmillan nurses and Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

These charities were nominated by Chris as after raising multiple thousands for them in the past two years, this year’s charity proceeds from a range of events hosted at the pub have reached a whopping £5,295, which will be donated to the nominated charities.

In paying tribute to Chris, Dave Mitchell of the Lime Tree said: “For the past three years since he was diagnosed, Chris Allen would not say no to a gig, he played with absolute passion, skill and generosity of his talent and strength to perform was second to none, his humour, his lyrical and musical skills put smiles on the faces of everyone who saw and heard him.

"He was and always will be an incredible ambassador of the Peterborough and surrounding areas music scene, and on a personal level was quite possibly the nicest, humble bloke anyone could ever meet.

"We will miss him enormously and we are incredibly honoured to have known him.

"Thank you Chris, we will never look at "The Shard" without thinking of you, swipe right mate and rest in peace.”
