MPB Structures, the construction company which owns - and ran - the popular city centre venue in Northminster for more than two decade, had indicated it would like to start the site clearance on January 4.

The company plans on building a three and seven storey block of apartments and student accommodation, with shops and restaurants at ground floor level, on the site of the pub - also home to Radius and Harry’s - which shut for good in October.

The interior has already been stripped and the signs taken down from the walls outside.

However, both the apartments planning application, submitted last May, and the demolition plan, submitted in October, have not been cleared by the planning department and are awaiting decisions.

The company has been told it cannot start the demolition work until approval has been given.

Peterborough City Council spokesperson said: “Both applications for The Solstice are still in consideration and we are currently waiting on further information from the applicant before we can reach a decision.”
