With the council actively encouraging pubs, bars and restaurants to bring Peterborough city centre to life post-lockdown, three of the most prominent will reopen their doors on Saturday.

Turtle Bay bar and restaurant, fronting onto St John’s Square, and its near neighbours the Queen’s Head and the Tap and Tandoor will be welcoming customers back to enjoy the food and drink they have to offer for the first time in three months.

And with some of the largest outdoor seating areas in that part of the city centre they will also be adding to the al-fresco Continental cafe culture the city council is so keen to see.

Caribbean restaurant and bar Turtle Bay is already taking bookings for brunch, lunch, dinner or drinks, both inside and on their ‘beachfronts’ – the outdoor dining and drinking terrace spilling out onto St John’s Square

Now Covid-secure, in line with Government requirements, the restaurant’s colourful and eclectic interior, beach shack bar, incredible rum cocktails, beautiful soul food and laidback reggae soundtrack will provide a tropical escape for visitors.

Tom Hamilton, General Manager of Turtle Bay Peterborough said: “At Turtle Bay, bringing the magic of the Caribbean to the table is what we do… I know these times have been incredibly tough for so many of our guests and our teams. But, as they say in the islands, storms don’t last forever. Now more than ever that sense of positivity and warmth will be a vital part of the Turtle Bay experience and we can’t wait to welcome our guests back to the restaurant. The Turtle Bay family has been working extraordinarily hard behind the scenes to ensure that the experience is a safe one, and we’d like to thank every team member, key worker and all of our guests, who have helped us on this journey.”

Directly opposite, the Queen’s Head - a Pizza, Pots and Pints concept pub - has its own garden at the back and plenty of seating outside on Queen Street. Outside will be drinks and takeaway only and all orders must be placed through an app.

And just around the corner on Cumbergate, Indian gastropub Tap and Tandoor will be back in business on Saturday, and it too has plans to make the most of the ample outdoor space it has to offer.
