Parrotts Fish Parlour in Hereward Cross is on the market for £126,000 with owner Tim Parrott saying he is hoping to sell up so he can spend more time with his family.

The 58-year-old dad of two said: “We’ve been here nearly 35 years and we’re ready for a change.

“I want to be able to enjoy my family while I’m still able to, rather than be carried out of here in a box!

“I don’t have any major commitments or debts so I’m in a position where I can move on and spend time with my family.”

Although the two-storey restaurant is on the market it remains very much open for business which is good news for the regulars, many of whom have been coming for decades.

Tim added: “We are not closing down, we are looking at selling the business if the right person turns up. I don’t want to be having to think about this in five to six years, so I want to do it now and reap the rewards of my labour.

“My father Ken started this business in 1986. I joined in 1987. You look at it and think there’s an amount of sadness (of leaving), but if you’re too attached you’ll never let it go. I’ve got time left in me, but I just want to live a little more. I’ve worked six days a week for the past 34 years as we like to give a personal service.

“I don’t know how people do it running a business seven days a week, 14 hours a day. We’ve always been a family business and that’s how I’d like it to finish.

“We’ve always been a traditional fish and chip shop. I still think there’s a massive market for fish and chips.”
