Fairtrade Peterborough needs volunteers to make fair trade a reality
Now, the voluntary and not-for-profit group has big plans and needs new volunteers – from digital lead to event coordinator and workplace lead.
The aim of the group is to raise awareness of Fairtrade products and the benefits Fairtrade has on communities: better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
Karen Igho, who helps run the group, said: “We help make sure local people understand why Fairtrade matters and have the chance to buy Fairtrade goods when they want to. Our work is about addressing the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers.
“With Fairtrade you have the power to change the world every day. With simple shopping choices you can get farmers a better deal. And that means they can make their own decisions, control their future and lead the dignified life everyone deserves.”
All the roles are voluntary and mainly home based and more information can be found at: https://fairtradepeterborough.wordpress.com/get-involved or by emailing: [email protected] or via Facebook message: https://www.facebook.com/fairtradepeterborough.
There are also opportunities to support in a less formal way by helping at events and spotting Fairtrade products available in the local area.
