Damian Wawrzyniak has welcomed the initiative and has registered his House of Feasts restaurant at Eye Green.

The chef, recently named as a regional finalist in the Food and Drink category of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, says the scheme has already made a difference on bookings.

“ I cannot complain one bit,” he said. “It will give people a bit of a push, an incentive, to go out and help us in the food and drink industry. It is a really good idea We need to get people through the door and when they get here they will get a better deal for good food.”

Ever flexible, during lockdown Damian never stopped and turned his restaurant into a deli, did takeaways and deliveries, and even now is planning longer hours to cope with the demand created by Eat Out To Help Out.

He will even be featuring Spanish tapas on his menus over the summer for those who might be missing their annual summer visit to Spain.

“It had made a difference, absolutely, “ he said. “We are flat out, Monday to Wednesday (when the scheme runs) for the first three weeks in August. And we will be staying open a couple of hours later in the evenings to get more people in.

“The three months of no restaurant customers in the place was tough, although we opened as a deli and that has led to a lot of new customers since we reopened - local people coming now for breakfast, to use the deli and visit for dinner.

“It is like a new beginning.”

At all participating venues, at the end of your visit the discount will be deducted from each customer’s bill - and the venue can claim it back from the Government.

The discount is up to a maximum of £10 per diner every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between August 3 and 31, and you can eat out as many times as you like . You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges, however.

The discount will be automatically available to you at participating establishments. Establishments will then claim a reimbursement from the government for the discount they’ve given you.

All diners in a group of any size can use the discount.

Participating establishments may include: restaurants, cafés, bars or pubs, etc .
