With most children missing out on singing in school at the moment, this is a fantastic chance for primary-age kids aged 7-11 to have some festive fun!

All they need to do to be part of the Peterborough Christmas Virtual Choir is learn the song “Jingle Bells”, video themselves performing it and submit their entry by December 14 - and it is completely free

Plus, there’s a chance to win a Yamaha PSR-EW300 (or similar) keyboard, a fantastic prize for budding musicians, which will be awarded for the best entry as judged by Peterborough Sings!’ director Will Prideaux.

The virtual choir project is part of the ambitious Arts Council England-funded Peterborough singing strategy being delivered by Peterborough Sings! on behalf of Peterborough Music Hub and Peterborough City Council and has been

organised instead of the popular schools’ singing days which normally take place twice annually at the Cresset.

With thousands of participants so far, these are themed to a particular musical genre - Abba, Beatles, West End – and have been fantastically well received by schools, teachers, parents and children from across the city and beyond.

Will Prideaux, director of Peterborough Sings, said: “COVID19 and lockdown has been a real challenge for us and for choirs across the world, but there’s no question of just stopping, music and singing are just as important now as they

always have been – if not more so, with their proven benefits to physical and mental health – we’ve had to think creatively about ways to keep singing even though physical rehearsals aren’t possible at the moment. We’ve moved a lot

of our work online very successfully during lockdown and the virtual choir is a fun, safe, way to get kids involved and engaged with singing. We’re really excited to be able to provide this opportunity and we’re confident it will be a great success…please spread the word!
