In typical 2020 fashion the delivery was somewhat different to previous years, with the toys dropped off outside of the hospital ahead of three days of quarantine before they can be distributed on the ward by the hard-working nurses.

Posh press officer Phil Adlam said: “Firstly, I want to thank Storm Woodley and everyone at Smyths Toys for their generosity once again. They have been superb throughout the year.

“In normal circumstances we would personally deliver the presents with the players and management team on the ward, but unfortunately that is not the case this year.

“However, this year, more than any other year, it was vitally important we explored all options to continue this annual visit. It may be different, but I think we have all got used to changes in 2020.

“We have been visiting the ward for many years now and it is always nice to see the impact that we make as a football club at this time. We hope that despite the different circumstances that is still the case this year.”

Storm, who is store manager at Smyths Toys, said: “Smyths Toys are delighted to join forces with Peterborough United Football Club again this year. We are so proud to be a part of this initiative and bring some happiness to the children in Peterborough City Hospital. This year, more so than any it is important we do our best to make it a magical one.”
