Peterborough has its ups and downs but it is these quirks that make it the home we know and love.
From taking a swim in the Lido open air pool to breathing in the distinctive smell of sugar beet factory, from tackling the Crown to town pub crawl to meeting iconic characters like Nobby the tramp, there is so much that sets us apart from other cities.
When we asked our readers to finish the sentence: You’re not really from Peterborough if you haven’t...
These are some of the answers we received.

5. Christmas and New Year in the square
The Christmas lights switch on in Cathedral Square and the gathering in the same location to see in the New Year became a tradition for many Peterborians. Hopefully these traditions can return when pandemic restrictions are no longer needed. Photo: Midlands

6. Summer swimming at the Lido
Peterborough's Lido was first opened as the Corporation Swimming Pool in 1936 by the Mayor of Peterborough Arthur Mellows. For generations of local people it has represented splashing fun on hot summer days. The iconic pool is still going strong and is one of the few survivors of its type still in use in the country. 7. The amazing Walter Cornelius
The incredible Walter Cornelius was a Latvian strongman, stuntman and philanthropist who escaped the Iron Curtain and settled in Peterborough, where he became famous and hugely popular by taking part in a range of bizarre stunts. From feats of strength to an attempt to fly across the Nene, Walter attracted national as well as local attention. A pathway along the river in the city centre is named after him. Photo: Midlands

8. Heard the noise from Animal Korner
Ice Hockey at Planet Ice has been a feature for many people growing up in Peterborough and several readers said the noise from the fans in 'Animal Korner' was one of the highlights for them.
