Looking Back: Scenes from the city taken in 1988

Today’s pictures are another selection from regular Looking Back contributor Andy Cole.

The first picture was taken in July 1988 and shows the Westgate Arcade looking towards Westgate.

Andy said: “The original diamond pattern paving slabs are still in position and the shop units still retain their 1930s stained hardwood windowed frontages.’’

The next picture was also taken in July 1988 and shows King Street (east Side) in the city centre.

Andy said: “This is the demolition site of the former Salvation Army Citadel which was still being used during the construction of the Queensgate Centre. Queensgate was later extended onto this area and it now forms part of Primark.’’

The final picture was taken in November 1988. It shows Laxton Square and the old 'Peterborough County Court' which later became home to 5th Avenue nightclub.
