Over the years it has been at the centre of the city’s entertainment offering with theatres, cinemas, clubs, pubs and restaurants.

For the next few weeks Looking Back will feature photographs of the street which has always been at the centre of Peterborough life.

Today’s pictures include a shot of Tesco’s store which was taken in 1979.

The next picture dates much further back and shows the Grand Theatre, which opened in 1900 as the Theatre Royal and had several name changes before it closed in 1959. It is located where the Peterborough Theatre is today.

The final picture is a lovely shot showing the old library (the present library was built in between the old one and the former Shelton’s shop site).

It was taken before Bayard Place was built which until recently was offices for the city council.

Can anyone date the picture?
