Bird’s eye views of Peterborough from the past
The picture showing the tracks snaking through the city centre was taken in 1992 and emphasises the city’s link to the railways. It’s looking north and shows the east coast mainline as it passes through the city’s station. Among the other landmarks that can be seen are Crescent Bridge.
The picture showing The Cresset in Bretton was taken three years later. Strangely (but patriotically!) all the parked cars seem to be red, white or blue!

Hide AdMoving out of the city we have a photograph showing the village of Glinton in 1973 - there’s been a lot of housebuilding since then.
Finally, we have a wonderful picture which shows the city centre in all its glory presided over by the magnificent cathedral.
This picture is not dated but was taken before Queensgate and pre the pedestrianisation of the main city centre roads including Bridge Street. You can also see the old Corn Exchange building.
