Speaking to members of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT), at their online Board meeting this week (November 30), Caroline Walker, CEO said: “On November 3, at their Governing Body meeting, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group approved proposals to relocate the UTC from the City Care Centre on Thorpe Road, Peterborough, to the PCH site.
“They agreed the move will not occur before April 1, 2021, but now that the decision has been made, we can start working through the next steps to develop an integrated patient-centred care model that will benefit our population.
“Alongside the physical move of the service, we are about to commence reconfiguration works across the emergency floor at PCH to provide us with more clinical capacity, facilitate the UTC move and embed some of our new care models such as the Surgical Assessment Unit.”
Graham Wilde, Chief Operating Officer added: “All of the capital works are currently on time easing the flow of patients around our Emergency Department and creating the physical space required for the UTC.
“The work to increase capacity in the Regional Emergency Department in this Covid-19 world we find ourselves in has now begun, and is going well.
“The clinical and managerial teams are also working well with our partners across the health economy in terms of redesigning the pathways and working with the various clinical around making sure we can have a clean and single flow from dialling ‘111’ through to if a patient needs urgent support and care in our Emergency Department.
“So, as a new group, this encompasses all partners from GPs, community providers, ‘111’ and ourselves designing those pathways.
“We’re hoping that we’ll complete the lion’s share of that work and will be able to present a business case and flow to the Board members sometime, early in 2021.”
