This new opportunity will see volunteers based on a ward. Their responsibilities will include greeting visitors and explaining about the new guidance and restrictions now in place to enable visiting to take place safely while we are still managing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Carol North, Head of Volunteering at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City Hospital, said: “We are looking for people with excellent communication skills to greet visitors at the ward entry area, ensure that they sign into our Track and Trace register and to discuss the Trust’s guidance around visiting restrictions.

“These volunteers will provide a vital link between the visitor and clinical staff and help to answer questions our visitors may have. The volunteers will also be able to visit patients who may not have visitors. Some of our patients are being cared for far away from home and don’t get visitors, so a chat with one of our volunteers will make a big difference to a patients’ day.

“Anyone who has the time to spare us will be asked to apply through our Volunteering system. They will be given infection control training before starting and will be required to wear a face mask while on site.”

Anyone interested in the role will need:

· A DBS check

· To provide 2 references

· To complete a Covid-19 risk assessment

· To be available to attend an Induction training session on 1 September 2020

It is essential that the volunteers are computer literate and are not in a high risk health group
