Peterborough City Hospital’s maternity unit is now open again - but the delivery suite has been closed on three occasions this week due to extra demand.

Penny Snowden, Deputy Chief Nurse for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Over the last week our maternity department has been incredibly busy and there have been three occasions where unfortunately we have closed the Delivery Suite to further admissions at Peterborough City Hospital.

“This is to ensure that we provide a safe and caring service to the women and families already within the Delivery Suite. We only take this action once we have looked at all of our options, and this is then reviewed every four hours.

“The unit is now open to admissions and we apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

“Hinchingbrooke maternity unit has been busy, but has not closed and has been able to accommodate the families that haven’t been able to go to Peterborough City Hospital.

“The temporary closure only affects Delivery Suite and no other parts of the Maternity service have been affected.”
