The new Wellbeing Service will provide a wide range of support to cancer patients and, for the first time, to their families as well.

Following treatment, cancer patients will be offered a ‘Moving On’ session, which aims to give them the confidence and information needed to access further support as they put their lives back on track.

They will be able to access new services that can help in that process, including self-management programmes, art and creative therapies, complementary therapies, emotional and financial support, plus contact with other local and national support services.

In addition, there will be a new open access ‘drop in’ service at the centre, which will be facilitated by staff and volunteers.

Kathy Dickinson, wellbeing project manager, said: “The trust recognised the need to reach out to more people and develop accessible support services for people following cancer treatment.

“Our dedicated team of cancer wellbeing specialists have recently worked with Healthwatch Peterborough and the local community to develop the new Wellbeing Service with support from Macmillan. We hope visitors accessing new services at the centre will enjoy its informal and welcoming setting.

“This exciting transformation from the current model of service will take place from September and over the following months more support services and facilities will be developed.”

The Cancer Wellbeing Team based at the Robert Horrell Macmillan Centre are currently looking for volunteers and partner organisations to help support the new Wellbeing Service by offering their time and/or services.
