Joy as Peterborough GP surgery reopens more than three and a half years after closing to patients
A Peterborough GP surgery has reopened almost four years since last being available to patients.
Parnwell Medical Centre, on Saltersgate, her reopened to patients after closing in 2022 “temporarily” for structural repairs after subsidence issues were identified.
From then on, around 1,700 patients were forced to seek alternative provision, many were asked to make appointments with surgeries also managed by Dr Laliwala and Partners as far away as in Ailsworth and Newborough, causing frustration and increased travel costs.
The surgery will now be open part-time between 9am and 1pm Monday and Wednesdays.

Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes said: “It's been a long time - but thankfully Parnwell surgery is now open again. A win for Parnwell and residents.
“Thank you to everyone who stood together to pressure health bosses to get the site open again. A special shout out to councillors, especially Cllr Sam Hemraj East Ward for her determination not to let this go. A great community effort and thanks to the Dr Laliwala and Partners.”
East ward councillor Samantha Hemraj said: “Alongside Cllr Shabina Qayyum and Cllr Ali Iqbal, we have consistently campaigned and applied pressure on the Integrated Care Services and local GP providers to ensure that Parnwell Medical Centre reopens.
“As ward councillors, we are extremely pleased to see real progress and to know that Parnwell residents will once again have access to a surgery within their own community.
“This is the kind of outcome that comes from persistent advocacy and putting residents’ needs first.”
