Have your say on hospital parking

The Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust will ask people to pay for parking as part of its plans to redevelop the site in Ryhall Road, and wants to get people’s views.

The trust says charges will be implemented in response to complaints raised by patients, staff and tenants who struggle to find a parking space, and to bring Stamford Hospital in line with Peterborough City Hospital. It says the misuse of the hospital car park has increased in recent years, especially on market day.

Trust chief executive Stephen Graves said: “We are experiencing issues with ‘fly parking’ at Stamford Hospital which is reducing the spaces available to patients, visitors and staff, so we are looking to implement charges and to have enforcement on site.

“By introducing the charges we are also addressing the issue of inequality between our staff, as those who work at Peterborough Hospital have to pay for parking, whereas those at Stamford Hospital currently do not.

“We are not consulting on the introduction of the parking charges. We would, however, like to hear people’s views on how we implement them, such as the impact the charges may have and what facilities might assist car park users, before we take our final decision on the details of the plan at our Trust board meeting.”

“I know that people will be very keen to know how the proceeds from car parking charges will be used, and I can confirm that any profits will be used to further enhance patient services at Stamford Hospital.”

Views will be considered as part of a discussion at the next meeting of the trust board of directors, held in public at Peterborough City Hospital on Tuesday, November 24. The meeting starts at 1.30pm.
