A Peterborough vets has issued a warning to residents over fears that dogs may have become contaminated by fly-tipping.

Oakdale Vet Centre in Central Square, Stanground, is warning dog owners to keep their pets on a lead if they are walking between Whittlesey and Stanground on the Green Wheel after treating two pooches with symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea.

The vets posted on Facebook: “We have had a couple of incidents of pets being walked between Whittlesey and Stanground along the greenwheel. They have then been brought to us needing serious medical treatment. It is unclear if the cause of this is something within the flytipping found along the path.

The vets added: “The symptoms begin very quickly and (the dogs) have been rushed in for treatment. It is not clear what the cause is at the moment but we are making people aware to prevent further illness.”
