What ‘The New Normal’ looks like at Peterborough Cathedral

Visitors to Peterborough Cathedral yesterday got the chance to see what the new normal was like at the city’s most historic building.

The doors at the cathedral were opened for the first time since the lockdown began yesterday morning, with people allowed in for private prayer.

Chairs were spread out across the floor to allow people to visit and stick to social distancing rules.

There are now hand sanitising stations for people to use as they enter and leave, numbers entering will be limited at busy times, and a one way system is in operation.

Visitors are also encouraged to only stay for around 15 minutes, and the toilets, shop and cafe remain closed.

Visitors will be able to light a candle following safe procedures, and they can also sit quietly to reflect or pray. Visitors are encouraged to make a donation to the Cathedral either by contactless card or in cash.

The Cathedral is open between 10am and 1pm every day.

The Cathedral grounds (except the Cloisters) remain open to the public during the daytime, provided that social distancing rules are observed.
