Tributes to popular Peterborough City Hospital worker who died after testing positive for Covid

Staff in the outpatients booking team at Peterborough City Hospital are mourning the loss of a popular and fun-loving colleague who passed away suddenly after testing positive for Coronavirus.

Debbie Carter was ill for a short time before she passed away.

She was a booking clerk in the Outpatients Booking Team, where she had worked for two years.

Caroline Walker, Chief Executive Officer at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City Hospital, said: “The news of Debbie’s death has come as a shock to us all, but especially to her team who knew her as a bubbly, outgoing and fun-loving member of the department. Our sincerest thoughts are with Debbie’s loved ones, plus the Outpatients Booking Team. She was a popular member of our staff and will be greatly missed.

“Our Chaplaincy colleagues and Emotional Wellbeing staff are working with Debbie’s colleagues to help them with any support they may need during this time.”

Debbie’s funeral will take place in London on Wednesday (January 27). Staff at the hospital will be able to pay their respects and celebrate Debbie’s life in an online ceremony being hosted at the same time by hospital chaplain Helen Fyall.

The tragedy comes after the recent death of Bernard Meriales, a healthcare assistant at the city hospital.

Mr Meriales, 48, was known to friends at Peterborough City Hospital as Bong, and died on December 7 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after contracting Covid-19.

The Press Association said at least 221 frontline health and care workers have been identified after dying with coronavirus.
