Top Peterborough doctor says ‘we can see the light at the end of the tunnel - but stick to the rules to prevent second wave’

The director of public heath in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire has said ‘we can see the light at the end of the tunnel’ - but called for people to continue to stick to lockdown rules in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr Liz Robin thanked everyone for sticking to the rules in Peterborough and across the county, and people’s efforts were making a difference and helping to prevent the spread of the disease - but residents need to continue to stay at home to prevent a second wave.

Dr Robin said: “Last week the Government announced a three week extension to the stay at home and social distancing rules. I’d like to thank all of you who are continuing to follow these rules because you are making a difference and lowing transmission of the virus in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

“However, if we are to continue to save lives and protect our NHS, we need to be steadfast and stick to these rules. Any deviation from them at this stage could risk a second wave, with further hospital admissions and death.

“We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we do need to stick to the rules.”
