REVEALED: Which areas of Peterborough have been worst hit by coronavirus

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics have revealed which areas of Peterborough have been worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

The figures, released today, show how many people have died in each area of Peterborough - and how many deaths have been put down to coronavirus between March and June.

Rather than using council ward boundaries, the ONS split the city into different neighbourhoods.

Bretton Park saw the highest number of COVID deaths with 15, a total of more than 44 per cent of all deaths in the neighbourhood.

A number of areas of the city did not record a single coronavirus death.

Last week Cllr Wayne Fitzgerald, Deputy Leader of Peterborough City Council and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Public Health, said there was a concerning number of cases in the PE1 area of the city, with evidence showing the virus was spreading to Paston and Ravensthorpe

The figures do not show in which setting deaths have occurred - for example, if it was in hospital, a care home, a hospice or at home or another setting.

The latest figures from The North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust show there have been 152 coronavirus deaths recorded at Peterborough City Hospital.

Figures released by Public Health England on July 23 show there have been 1,398 positive tests for coronavirus in Peterborough, while statistics released yesterday show there has been a fall in the number of people with the virus in the city,

The city’s rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 of population published yesterday evening (July 23) is 19.9 compared to 31.3 the previous week putting the city at 16th place in the national rankings.

This week a second mobile testing centre was opened at Dogsthorpe Community Centre, to work alongside the mobile centre at Gladstone Park and the permanent centre at the East of England Showground.
