Residents aged 70 or over urged to contact GP if they have not had COVID vaccine yet

Residents aged 70 or over - or those or are clinically extremely vulnerable who have not yet had their first COVID vaccine dose are being urged to contact their GP.

Thousands of residents who are in the government's most vulnerable categories have already had the first jab to offer protection against the virus.

Now the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG is urging the most vulnerable residents to ensure they get the vital vaccine.

A spokesman for the CCG said: "If you’re aged 70 or above or clinically extremely vulnerable (previously on the shielding list) and have not yet received your first COVID-19 vaccine dose please contact your GP to book your appointment. It's important you get in touch so you can get the protection you need."

Statistics released last week showed that more than 80 per cent of people aged 80 or over in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire had received the first dose of the vaccine by January 24.Dr Gary Howsam, CCG Clinical Chair of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG said: “We’ve now vaccinated more than 100,000 local people with thousands more being added to this number every day, and remain on track to offer vaccinations to all of the priority cohorts by the middle of February thanks to the hard work of staff and volunteers.
