Peterborough’s rolling case rate up to February 7 was 300.6 cases per 100,000 with 608 new cases diagnosed, a drop of 27.4% on the previous week which saw 837 new cases.

Dr Liz Robin, Director of Public Health for Peterborough, said: “Peterborough infection rates, which have been coming down in a steady but slower rate than either the national or East of England rates over the past few weeks, are at last starting to come down at a faster rate.

“We have seen a 27% drop in the week to February 7 which is very pleasing and shows that people in the city are really taking the good public health messages to heart - and helping to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“But I must implore people not to let up now.

“At infection rates of around 300 per 100,000 our rates are still higher than the national average and most other neighbouring authorities.

“We are still seeing high numbers in our hospitals and very sadly between two and three people dying every day from the virus in our city.

“The vaccine programme is rolling out well now locally, and I would encourage everyone who is invited to do so, to say yes to the vaccine - as ultimately this will help us all return to a more normal life as quickly as possible.”
