The rate of new coronavirus cases in the city has shown a decline in recent weeks but Peterborough remains an area of concern on the government’s watchlist.

However, with more people set to be going out over the Bank Holiday weekend, health officials are keen to prevent case numbers from rising again.

Coronavirus hasn’t gone away and they have urged local residents to remain aware and to help reduce the risk of infection by taking some well-known simple steps to stop the virus in its tracks.

These steps include keeping two metres distance from anyone not in your own household, making sure to wear a face covering in public places, washing hands thoroughly and more often and that everyone in a household isolates if someone in the home has symptoms until they’ve taken a test and the results are known.

Dr Liz Robin said:“We want everyone to enjoy the long weekend safely, which means we need people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to continue to think of others and try to stay at least 2m away from other people who are not in their household.

“We also need everyone to wear a face covering inside public spaces like shops and when travelling on buses and trains.

“If you’re meeting friends or family outside, please do remember to keep to groups of no more than six people from different households, and try to keep 2m apart.

“Let’s all do our bit to help care for our community and keep safe this Bank Holiday.”

Coronavirus tests are available via phone by calling 111 or can be ordered free online from the NHS at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/.

The symptoms of coronavirus are a high temperature, a new and continuous cough and a loss or change in the sense of taste.
