The Thomas Walker Surgery, part of Octagon Medical Practice, on Princes Street is looking for volunteers to assist in duties such as traffic management and general patient support.

Octagon issued a statement on Sunday (January 10) stating that they were ready to begin the vaccine rollout and have already recruited volunteers to help out at the Jenner Health Centre, Whittlesey with spaces being filled in just over 24 hours.

The Octagon practices are beginning to offer the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine to patients over the age of 80, the highest priority group. The vaccine is better suited to being given out in local medical centres than the Pfzier/BioNtech vaccine due to the fact that it can be stored at much lower temperatures.

A statement from Octagon Medical Practice said: “We are now starting to roll-out the vaccinations for Peterborough Practices and are looking for any volunteers to work 8am to 2pm or 2pm to 8pm on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th this week at the Thomas Walker centre in town (PE1 2QP).

If you have availability can you please email [email protected] with your availability against the dates and times above and we will send out a volunteer pack and rota. Duties will include car parking, traffic management and general patient support.

We will pay expenses and provide PPE etc as needed. Any support would be greatly appreciated.”
