Peterborough COVID rate continues to drop

The COVID rate in Peterborough is continuing to fall, as fewer positive tests are recorded across the city.

The seven day rate now stands at 491.4 per 100,000 people (up to January 21)- the first time it has dipped below the 500 mark since January 3 according to government figures.

There were 994 cases reported in the seven days up to January 21.

The biggest fall was in Fengate and Parnwell, with 26 fewer positive cases.

The area with the fewest positive tests was Barnack, Wittering & Wansford with 13 cases. It also had the lowest rate with 191.5

The area with the most cases was Central Park with 79 - although this was a drop of 21 cases compared to the previous week.

The area with the highest rate was Fletton, with 772.4. Fletton also saw the biggest increase in positive cases, with 26 more than the previous week.

Sadly six deaths related to the virus were reported yesterday, and 16 in the past seven days - although this is eight lower than the previous week.

The government data shows that in total 240 people have died in Peterborough within 28 days of a positive COVID test, while 225 have died with COVID mentioned on the death certificate.

Data from the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust published by the government indicates the number of people admitted to hospital is starting to fall - although the number of patients in hospital continues to rise.

The Government data, which runs up to January 17, indicates 261 people are in hospital, and there are currently 22 people on ventilators.

In the trust’s most recent update, published yesterday (January 26), Caroline Walker, Chief Executive, for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I can confirm that sadly, 529 patients being cared for in our Trust have passed away since we began reporting Covid-19-related deaths. There have been 167 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and 362 at Peterborough City Hospital. All patients were aged 30 to 98 years old and the majority of those had pre-existing health conditions. We are currently caring for 312 patients with Coronavirus in our hospitals.
