A council spokesperson said they will be looking to take action against any individuals who are flouting rules that others are sacrificing a lot to follow.

The spokesperson said: “The council’s Covid Compliance Team has received reports of barbers, hairdressers and beauticians operating illegally “underground” during the lockdown period.

“The vast majority of local professionals have been hugely supportive and are following the legislation to protect our communities in line with the current restrictions.

“The team remains working hard to remove these posts and identify those individuals behind the advert.

“Under current Government guidelines personal care facilities such as hair and beauty services must close and should not continue to be provided in other people’s homes.

“Furthermore, under current restrictions residents cannot meet other people indoors, unless they live with them or are part of a support bubble.

“We acknowledge that the pandemic has had a devastating impact on livelihoods and the council did not want to penalise businesses, but public health remains a priority, businesses who have faced financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic should visit the councils website for more information on the support available to them.

“The current rules and conditions are clear and easily available on the internet (https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus) and anyone found continuing to operate during lockdown may be issued with prohibition notices and fined.

“Prohibition Notices require businesses to close in line with the regulations or face financial penalties and possible court action.”
