Number of Peterborough COVID patients in hospital at lowest level this year

The number of COVID patients in hospital is now at it's lowest level for a month.

Today Caroline Walker, Chief Executive, for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said there were 148 patients with Coronavirus in hospitals run by the trust - which includes Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford & Rutland hospitals.

Government data shows the last time there were fewer COVID patients in hospitals run by the trust was December 28, when there were 129 patients receiving treatment.

The numbers of patients has been falling for several days, after reaching a peak of 308 on January 28.

The Government data shows the number of new hospital admissions has been falling since reaching a second wave peak of 44 in one day on January 26 (During the initial first wave, the peak reached 49 on April 8). The latest data shows on February 4 there were 11 new admissions.

The number of people receiving ventilation is also dropping. On February 6, there were 20 patients on ventilators - the peak on January 28-29 was 25 patients.

Today Ms Walker said: “I can confirm that sadly, 645 patients being cared for in our Trust have passed away since we began reporting Covid-19-related deaths. There have been 197 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and 448 at Peterborough City Hospital. All patients were aged 30 to 98 years old and the majority of those had pre-existing health conditions. We are currently caring for 148 patients with Coronavirus in our hospitals.

"Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients' families and loved ones at this difficult time."
