More than half Peterborough COVID deaths during pandemic recorded in December and January

January was the worst month for coronavirus deaths in Peterborough during the pandemic - and more than half of the city's deaths have been recorded in the past two months.

Government statistics show there were 87 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test in the city during January. In December - the previous highest - there were 57 deaths.

The two months make up more than 53 per cent of all coronavirus deaths in the pandemic.

The four worst single days for deaths - each with six - have all come in January and December, and include Christmas Day, January 3, January 17 and January 27.

The government data shows that in total in Peterborough there have been 267 deaths in Peterborough within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

The first was recorded on March 21 last year.

It also shows there have been 225 deaths in the city where coronavirus has been mentioned on the death certificate.

For deaths with coronavirus mentioned on the death certificate, the week ending January 15 - the latest data available - was the worst week on record during the entire pandemic with 27 deaths.

The second highest week was the previous week (ending January 8) with 15 deaths.

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust also release data on deaths at their hospitals - which includes Peterborough City Hospital.Caroline Walker, Chief Executive, for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I can confirm that sadly, 569 patients being cared for in our Trust have passed away since we began reporting Covid-19-related deaths. There have been 173 at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and 396 at Peterborough City Hospital. All patients were aged 30 to 98 years old and the majority of those had pre-existing health conditions. We are currently caring for 281 patients with Coronavirus in our hospitals.
