More than 30,000 COVID vaccination jabs have been given out in the space of a week in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, new figures reveal.

The data, from NHS England, shows that by February 7, a total of 186,344 doses of the vaccine had been given out across the county - up 32,703 from the previous week.

Nearly 6,000 second doses have also been given out.

The biggest increase in the number of vaccines given was in the under 70s.

a total of 71,853 people aged under 70 in the county have been given the first dose of the vaccine - up from 55,109 the previous week. This means that about 12 per cent of all people aged between 16 and 69 in Cambridgeshire have now had one dose of the vaccine (according to 2019 ONS population estimates).

For people aged 70-74, 37,038 have had the first dose of the vaccine, around 83 per cent of that age group in the county. The previous week, the figure stood at 25,201, or 56.8 per cent of the population (according to 2019 ONS population estimates).

A total of 30,364 people aged 75-79 have had the first dose - up from 27,950 the previous week. The 2019 ONS population estimate for people aged 75-79 was 30,087 - meaning more people in the age bracket have had the jab than were estimated to be living in the county two years ago.

There have been 41,153 doses given to people aged 80 and over, up from 39,499 the previous week. This means that 91.8 per cent of the population aged 80 and over have had the jab (according to 2019 ONS population estimates)

For second doses, a total of 5,954 have now been given in the county - 1,070 to people aged under 70, 18 to people aged 70-74, five to people aged 75-79, and 4,861 to people aged 80 and over.

Last week, a total of 5,882 second doses had been given out.

This week, a member of the vaccination team at Peterborough City Hospital spoke of his pride at being part of the jab roll out - and offered tips to people who are due to attend appointments to receive the drugs.
