Peterborough’s director of public health said she wants her mother to get vaccinated for coronavirus as she urged city residents to take up the jab.

Dr Liz Robin said she is encouraging her mum to get a vaccine when she is offered one as it is the only way that life can return to normal.

Elderly people and care home staff in Peterborough have started to be vaccinated, with Peterborough City Hospital designated as a vaccine hub.

There are concerns nationally that anti-vaxxers may threaten efforts to encourage people to get a jab when offered one.

Dr Robin said: “Vaccination is really the way out of the current situation and the vaccine has been approved by the NHRA which has taken a huge amount of care over that.

“I would absolutely urge Peterborough residents to take up the vaccine. We’re all looking forward to a time when it’s had an impact and we can return to a normal way of life.

“I’m absolutely encouraging my mother to have it and I will have it when eligible.”
