How COVID case rates have changed in Peterborough since lockdown began

Four weeks after Peterborough was placed into tier 4 - effectively locking down the city - COVID cases continue to rise.

Of the 22 neighbourhoods in the city, only one has seen the case rate fall.

The Peterborough Telegraph published case rate figures on December 16, which showed how many people per 100,000 had coronavirus (in the seven days up to December 10).

Peterborough moved into tier 4 on December 20.

The latest figures (up to January 12) show that 21 areas had seen a rise - with some rates more than trebling.

The biggest rise was in Central Park, which saw the rate rise from 356.4 to 917.8

In percentage terms, the biggest rise was in Parnwell, which saw its rate more than treble, going from 206.8 to 719.6.

Other area to see rates treble included Fletton, Hampton Hargate & Orton Longueville and Paston.

Newborough and Peakirk was the only area to see a fall in case rate, going from 366.2 to 311.9.

The smallest increase was seen in Longthorpe and Netherton, which went from 565.9 (the highest rate in the city at the time) to 579.7.

This week Director of Public Health for Peterborough and Cambridgeshire Dr Liz Robin said part of the reason for Peterborough’s continued increase in cases was due to the number of workers in the city who were unable to work from home.
