A mobility aids entrepreneur whose two showrooms in Peterborough were hit by the lockdown has bounced back by developing a machine that he claims can blast coronavirus in mid-air.

Kian Carvell’s start-up business Airosan-UV has created a compact, lightweight unit to sterilise the air in rooms using ultraviolet radiation.

The device, which plugs into a standard wall socket, draws air in and “cleans” it before expelling it back out like an air conditioning unit.

Mr Carvell, business development manager at Eastern Adaptations, the firm founded by his father with showrooms in Stanground and Benedict Square, said: “While personal protection equipment focuses on stopping the spread of the disease, this unit aims to kill it while airborne.”

He added: “Basically, this crisis hit us. Our projects got postponed, so we started working with the discharge teams at hospitals and came across this challenge.

“We partnered up with friends in a company specialising in laboratory equipment and came up with a UV air sterilisation unit.

“The team has worked with professionals including surgeons, consultants and facilities managers from two major London Hospitals to develop the mobile systems.”
