Whittlesey school reunite owner with lost ring found on school field after 17 years

Pupils at Alderman Jacobs Primary School in Whittlesey made a remarkable find while out metal detecting, which has led to a happy ending almost two decades in the making!

While on a session of metal detecting on the school field, led by My Isley, a member of the school’s wellbeing team, pupils at the school received a strong signal.

Upon digging up the location of the signal, a small mud-coated ring was found.

Realising it might hold sentimental value, Mr Isley reached out to the Alderman Jacobs community, sharing information in hopes of identifying its owner.

The ring was soon recognised and confirmed to belong to a parent who had misplaced it 17 years before, when the owner herself was at a local secondary school and had paid a visit to the Alderman Jacobs school field. She believed it was lost forever.

The owner of the school was then able to visit it the school in person and collect her long lost ring from the pupil who discovered it!

Alderman Jacobs Headteacher Martin Fry said: “We are delighted that the ring has made its way back to its rightful owner.

“It’s a lovely story with a happy ending that showcases the curiosity of our pupils and the strength of our school community.
