Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council have sent out a joint message warning parents not to pass over their bank details.

They said: “We have had reports of fraudsters emailing parents in receipt of free school meals, asking for bank details to help with funding while schools are closed.

“This is a scam and the links are fake. Delete the email and do not pass on any bank details.”

Fraudsters have used the coronavirus as a vehicle to target potential victims and have so far made hundreds of thousands of pounds.

And with many children currently being taught at home to avoid catching the virus it has opened up another potential scam.
