Earlier today, Sam Carling MP joined pupils and staff at Northborough Primary School to celebrate the official opening of its newly revamped Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) outdoor area and classroom.

Nestled in the village of Northborough, just eight miles north of Peterborough city centre, the school is a proud part of Soke Education Trust, dedicated to providing high standards of education across the region.

The transformation of the outdoor EYFS space was designed to create a vibrant and inviting environment that encourages children to learn through play, whatever the weather. A new canopy enables outdoor activities rain or shine, while resources like a mud kitchen support children’s developmental skills and imaginative play. Inside, the classroom environment has been entirely re-resourced using expert guidance to encourage independent learning, with carefully organised materials including a range of construction resources that children can self-select based on their needs.

Headteacher Andrew Pattison explained: “We wanted both the classroom and outdoor spaces to be equally inspiring and versatile for our youngest learners. The outdoor area now offers a vibrant environment where children can engage in all-weather play and exploration, while the fully re-resourced classroom encourages independent learning with materials carefully organised to meet individual needs.”

During the ceremony, Sam Carling MP praised the positive impact of the new facilities: “It's fantastic to see such a welcoming and stimulating environment for our youngest pupils. Investing in early years education is crucial for setting children up for success, and Northborough Primary’s new outdoor space is a shining example of that commitment.”

Supported by funding from Soke Education Trust, the project reflects the school’s ongoing dedication to nurturing curiosity, confidence, and achievement among its pupils.
